Billy Joel has been tapped to receive the Library of Congress' Gershwin Prize for Popular Song later this year.
The "Piano Man" will become just the sixth recipient of the prestigious honor that recognizes individuals for lifetime achievement in popular music. Named for brothers George and Ira Gershwin, the honor will be presented at a gala event in Washington, DC in November.
Past Gershwin Prize recipients include Carole King, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Sir Paul McCartney and songwriting duo Burt Bacharach and the late Hal David.
